You Sung-yop, chair of the ROK National Assembly’s committee on education, culture, sports, and tourism, announced on April 16 that ruling party and opposition members of his committee plan to land on Takeshima (in Oki, Shimane Prefecture, called Dokdo in the ROK), which is occupied illegally by the ROK, on April 23-24. This trip was originally planned for April 16-17 but was put off due to “considerations relating to the National Assembly.” This action is meant to be a protest against the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology’s new official guidelines for school teaching stating that Takeshima is an “integral part” of Japanese territory.
