Former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Secretary General Toshihiro Nikai and other politicians dined at a Japanese restaurant in Akasaka on the evening of April 18. Key government and ruling party officials during the Koizumi administration, including former LDP Vice President Taku Yamasaki, former Secretary General Tsutomu Takebe, and Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike, participated in this meeting.
Koizumi and Yamasaki have been critical of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently. According to a participant in the meeting, they criticized the government’s response to the Moritomo Gakuen scandal.
After the meeting, Yamasaki told reporters that Koizumi said he “hopes the next administration will implement a ‘zero nuclear plants’ policy.”
