Foreign Minister Taro Kono plans to visit Jordan on April 27 to attend a ministerial-level meeting about a Japanese plan for the Middle East peace process, government sources said Thursday.

The sixth round of talks on the “Corridor for Peace and Prosperity,” established in 2006, will bring together Japanese, Jordanian, Israeli and Palestinian officials.

The last time a foreign minister represented Japan at the talks was in July 2013.

Kono will discuss plans for economic assistance aimed at Palestinian self-sustainability, the sources said.

The officials are also likely to discuss the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

While in Jordan, Kono is also expected to co-chair an international meeting on counterterrorism, the sources said.
