President Trump tough on trade in U.S.-Japan summit

All Thursday evening papers reported heavily on the second day of the U.S.-Japan summit. Nikkei projected that Tokyo will probably be put in a difficult position since Washington is likely to put pressure on it to present concrete measures to correct the trade imbalance. Mainichi and Tokyo Shimbun wrote that the Trump administration appears to be impatient to obtain concessions from Japan very quickly on the trade front ahead of the November midterm elections, adding that the GOJ may try to deflect U.S. pressure under the new forum by patiently explaining the merits of the CPTPP.
