Saturday morning’s Yomiuri led with a finding that the Defense Ministry is looking into equipping the successor model to the aging ASDF F-2 fighter jets with radar drones for detecting enemy aircraft, noting that the new model will have stealth capabilities that are superior to those of the state-of-the-art F-35As that the ASDF has just started introducing. The ministry is also reportedly hoping to equip the new model, which will probably be produced jointly with the U.S., with twice as many air-to-air missiles as the F-35A with the goal of countering the rapid modernization of the PLA Air Force.
