In connection with an incident in which large amounts of firefighting foam were released on the Kadena Air Base on May 4, the liaison council of Kadena Town, Okinawa City, and Chatan Town for issues relating to the Kadena base held an executive meeting on May 8 and decided to send protest letters to the relevant Japanese and U.S. government offices by mail. The letters will be sent after the municipalities coordinate on the language and the three mayors sign them.

The protest letters will point out the U.S. forces’ inadequate management and seek thorough implementation of regulations. These will be mailed to the 18th Wing on Kadena Air Base, the U.S. Consulate General in Okinawa, the Okinawa Defense Bureau, and the Foreign Ministry’s Okinawa office. (Slightly abridged)
