NHK Aomori reported that “American Day,” an annual event to deepen exchanges between Japan and the U.S., was held in Misawa, Aomori, on Sunday with the cooperation of an international exchange organization and the U.S. military. The network said that a parade was held on the main road in front of Misawa AB, and the base was opened to the public for the first time ever for this annual event. The network quoted Margot Carrington, the minister-counselor for public affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, as saying: “I was especially happy to be able to come because Misawa is very well-known for the close ties between the base and the local community.”
