It was learned on June 9 that Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Seiko Noda, who is planning to run in the Liberal Democratic Party presidential election in September, will visit Beijing on July 17-18 to meet with key leaders of the Communist Party of China. She plans to exchange views with them on policy on women’s issues, which is her signature initiative, in an effort to play up her presence in diplomacy.

Noda, who is concurrently the state minister for gender equality, is working on drawing up measures to prevent sexual harassment in light of a sexual harassment scandal involving the previous vice finance minister. She will discuss women’s empowerment in the workplace and women’s participation in politics at her meetings with the Chinese officials.
