The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) appointed Tetsuji Miyamoto, 48, director of the Regional Policy Division of the Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, as new director of the Russian Division of the European Affairs Bureau as of June 11. He will replace Tadaatsu Mori, 49, former director of the Russian Division, who was removed from the post for allegedly committing an act that damaged public trust as a national government official.

Miyamoto is from MOFA’s so-called “Russian school,” and is skilled in the Russian language. He previously served as a counselor at the Japanese Embassy in Russia.
