Japan’s industry ministry said Monday it is kicking off a full-fledged program to support startups in cooperation with private-sector companies.
The ministry has picked 92 startups for the J-Startup program, including online flea market operator Mercari Inc. <4385> and quick response code payment service provider Origami Inc.
Those firms will receive help from the ministry and 100 supporter companies, such as Japan Post Co., Sharp Corp. <6753> and three magabanks including MUFG Bank.
Specifically, the ministry will enable the firms to use the J-Startup logo, participate in government business missions overseas and find business partners.
The supporter companies will offer places to do business, provide their products and services at preferential prices, cooperate in experimental projects such as those using robots, and introduce customers and partner companies.
