Prime Minister Shinzo Abe met with Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) Policy Research Council Chairman Fumio Kishida for about two hours at a luxury Japanese restaurant in Akasaka, Tokyo, on the evening of June 18.

Kishida told reporters after the meeting that they exchanged views on the North Korea situation, the final phase of the current Diet session, and the LDP presidential election in September.

The dinner meeting was initiated by Abe.

While Abe is eager to run for a third term in the LDP presidential race, Kishida, who is regarded as a likely successor to Abe, has yet to reveal his plans for this election.
