China invites Japan, U.S. to join AIIB

On June 26, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) President Jin Liqun called on Japan and the United States to join the China-led international financial institution, saying, “We are ready to work with all countries.” That same day, the AIIB stated that Lebanon had joined. Member states and regions now number 87. Japan and the United States are the only G7 nations that have not joined. President Jin made the statement at the AIIB’s third Annual Meeting held on June 25–26 in Mumbai, India.
