Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who is also the president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), dined with 12 people, including members of Himawari-kai, a group of LDP junior lawmakers unaffiliated with any intraparty faction, at an Japanese okonomiyaki pancake restaurant in Tokyo on the night of June 27. According to Katsuyuki Kawai, an organizer of the group and special adviser to the LDP president for foreign affairs, the members were supportive of the prime minister’s reelection for a third term in the LDP presidential election scheduled for September, with one of them saying, “I hope you will continue to steadily steer the country.”
