The Kenmintohyo no Kai [association for holding a referendum] ended on July 23 its campaign to collect the signatures required to petition for legislating an ordinance on holding a referendum in Okinawa on Henoko relocation.

As of 9:00 p.m. on July 22, the group was able to collect 65,926 signatures, equivalent to 5.69% of eligible voters in Okinawa, way above the 2% required for petitioning for legislation. The group ended its campaign on July 23.

The lists of signatures will now be collated for submission to the municipal election administration commissions for examination early next week. (Abridged)
