Asahi, Mainichi, Nikkei, and Sankei wrote that the Ministry of Justice has decided to upgrade the Immigration Bureau to an agency next April. The move is in line with a GOJ plan to accept more foreign workers under a new residency status for skilled foreign workers that will go into effect in the same month. The ministry will request 3 billion yen in the budget for the next fiscal year to set up the planned agency, which will employ 320 additional immigration officers and other staff.
