PM Abe says report on President Trump’s alleged “Pearl Harbor” remark “totally false”

During an interview with Sankei Shimbun on Sept. 1, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said The Washington Post’s report claiming that President Donald Trump said, “I remember Pearl Harbor” at the Japan-U.S. summit in June was “totally false.”

Abe said: “I have talked about various topics with Mr. Trump on many occasions. No such exchange has ever taken place with the President.”

The Washington Post also reported that Trump, who takes issue with the U.S.’s trade deficit with Japan, asked Abe to agree to engage in talks for a bilateral trade agreement that would help increase U.S. exports of beef and autos to Japan.
