Foreign Minister Taro Kono will visit Vietnam from Tuesday to attend an economic forum on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Friday.

During the three-day World Economic Forum on ASEAN through Thursday in the capital city of Hanoi, Kono is expected to explain the Japanese government’s stance on the promotion of free trade.

He plans to meet Tuesday with South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung Wha on the sidelines of the event, the ministry said, with the two likely to confirm close coordination between Tokyo and Seoul in realizing North Korea’s denuclearization.

On Thursday, Kono will hold talks with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
