Abe meets with South Korean envoy

All networks reported at noon that Prime Minister Abe met with visiting South Korean National Intelligence Service Director Suh Hoon at the Kantei this morning and expressed hope that efforts such as the planned inter-Korean summit this month will lead to progress in denuclearization. According to NHK, Suh briefed Abe on the inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang slated for Sept. 18 to 20. In response, Abe said: “I hope that the efforts between the South and the North, including the upcoming summit, will lead to concrete actions toward the implementation of the agreement reached between the U.S. and North Korea.” The network said the two officials also agreed to continue to work closely on various issues, including the abductions.
