Okinawa Times and Ryukyu Shimpo wrote that a total of 133 international scholars, artists, and others, including film director Oliver Stone, linguist Norm Chomsky, historian John Dower, and Nobel laureate Mairead Maguire, issued a statement on Friday supporting the Okinawa Prefectural Government’s revocation of its landfill permit for the FRF construction at Henoko. The statement calls on Prime Minister Abe and President Trump to cancel the Henoko project and open negotiations toward drastically reducing and eventually eliminating U.S. military bases in Okinawa.
