The Okinawa Times will roll out a project to identify online “fake news” from Sept. 13 in collaboration with the office of Hiroyuki Fujishiro at Hosei University with an eye on the gubernatorial election, which is scheduled to be held on Sept. 30. The project will run through Sept. 29, the day before voting takes place.
The project is aimed at identifying the source and content of fake news and how they spread. The media outlet hopes the research will help lead to come up with effective measures. Fact-checking will be conducted based on the standards set by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
After the election, the daily will summarize the project. (Abridged)
