Ahead of the official deployment of the U.S. Air Force’s CV-22 Ospreys on the Yokota base (straddling Fussa and other municipalities) in Tokyo from Oct. 1, the liaison council consisting of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and five cities and one town adjacent to the military base (chaired by Governor Yuriko Koike) submitted a petition to Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera on Sept. 25 asking him to provide information on safety and exercises involving the Ospreys after their deployment on the Yokota base. They also asked for measures to minimize noise and other impact on the living environment of local residents.
The legislature of the town of Mizuho near Yokota also passed a unanimous resolution on the same day calling on the government to provide information promptly.
