Jiji Press reported that U.S. Ambassador to Japan Hagerty held a press conference on Wednesday in New York, during which he welcomed the U.S.-Japan summit held on the same day. The report noted that the Ambassador sat in on the summit. “It was extremely constructive,” he reportedly said. Jiji wrote that according to the Ambassador, the summit got off to an amicable start as President Trump and Prime Minister Abe talked about the times they played golf together in the past. The two leaders also reportedly held “extremely sound discussions” on security and trade. They also reportedly discussed the abduction issue, and PM Abe expressed his appreciation to President Trump for his cooperation on the matter.
