Aso first in line to serve as acting prime minister in Abe’s absence

The reshuffled cabinet held its first cabinet meeting on the night of Oct. 2. The meeting decided the order of those who would serve as acting prime minister in the event that Prime Minister Abe is absent. The order is as follows: (1) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Taro Aso, (2) Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga, (3) Minister in Charge of Economic Revitalization Toshimitsu Motegi, (4) Foreign Minister Taro Kono, and (5) Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Takumi Nemoto.
