In the cabinet reshuffle on Oct. 2, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe picked former State Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Taku Eto, a Liberal Democratic Party member, as a special adviser to the prime minister, a post that entails supporting Abe by working full-time at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Eto will oversee the promotion of exports of Japan’s agricultural products as the successor of Mitsuhiro Miyakoshi, who has joined Abe’s new cabinet. The four other special advisers to the Prime Minister – Kentaro Sonoura, Seiichi Eto, Hiroto Izumi and Eiichi Hasegawa – remain unchanged.
