NHK reported online on press remarks on Thursday by Agriculture Secretary Perdue, who commented on the planned launch of so-called “TAG” talks with Japan. He reportedly said he is hoping that Japanese tariff rates on U.S. farm imports will be reduced to levels equal to those agreed upon in the Japan-EU EPA or lower. The network claimed that this remark shows that the Trump administration intends to take a tough approach toward Japan in the bilateral trade talks.
