Putin comments on talks with Abe

All national dailies reported on remarks made by Russian President Putin at an international conference held in Sochi on Thursday. According to Nikkei, Putin said that Abe told him during their talks in Vladivostok in September that Japan rejects his proposal to conclude a peace treaty without conditions and insisted on resolving the issue of the Northern Territories before concluding a peace treaty. Yomiuri and Sankei wrote that Putin told the audience that Russia would continue to hold territorial negotiations with Japan even if they were to conclude a peace treaty today. Mainichi wrote that the Russian leader said sufficient trust has not been built between Tokyo and Moscow on account of Japan’s economic sanctions on Russia over its annexation of Crimea in 2014.
