Yomiuri claimed that the Japan Fair Trade Commission plans to launch a probe next month to address the alleged “nontransparent” business practices of Google, Apple, Facebook, and Amazon (GAFA), noting that it will interview officials of the four tech giants, their local business clients, and consumer organizations. The panel is reportedly set to invoke a provision in the antitrust law so as to force the interviewees to disclose their business dealings with GAFA with the goal of combating alleged unfair business practices in Japan.

Nikkei ran a similar story on its front-page, adding that the GOJ has decided to establish a taskforce charged with monitoring GAFA and other platform operators that process big data.
