Pentagon announces successful testing of missile interceptor jointly developed with Japan

NHK reported online this morning that the U.S. Defense Department’s Missile Defense Agency announced on Dec. 11 the successful testing of a new SM-3 Block 2A missile interceptor fired from the Aegis Ashore facility on Kauai Island in waters off Hawaii on Dec. 10. This was the fifth and third successful test firing of the interceptor. NHK noted that the SM-3 Block 2A is slated for deployment to Japan’s Aegis Ashore systems and the USG has already decided to sell 13 interceptors, including the SM-3 Block 2A, to Japan.
