Washington, Dec. 11 (Jiji Press)–A test of a new missile interceptor system being jointly developed by Japan and the United States was conducted successfully, the Missile Defense Agency of the U.S. Department of Defense said Tuesday.

The test of the Standard Missile-3 Block 2A system was the fifth of its kind. It marked the second successful test in a row, following the one in October.

An SM-3 Block 2A interceptor missile launched from the Aegis Ashore Missile Defense Test Complex on the Hawaiian island of Kauai successfully shot down a mock intermediate-range ballistic missile fired from an aircraft, according the agency.
