Asahi wrote that a Japan-Russia government committee on trade and economy held a meeting in Tokyo on Tuesday. At the meeting, which was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Kono and Russian Minister of Economic Development Oreshkin, Japan and Russia discussed progress in the eight-point economic cooperation plan that was agreed upon by Prime Minister Abe and President Putin. Kono stated at a post-meeting joint press conference that the meeting was significant because the two nations reconfirmed that they will work together to develop their economic cooperation ahead of the prime minister’s envisaged visit to Russia. Yomiuri and Mainichi ran similar reports.
