Asahi wrote that in response to a request made by a local fishermen’s group to the U.S. and Japanese governments for compensation for the incident in February in which a Misawa-based U.S. F-16 fighter jettisoned its two fuel tanks into Lake Ogawara, the two governments agreed to pay a total of about 85 million yen. The paper said that according to the Misawa office of the Defense Ministry’s Tohoku Bureau, the compensation was paid to the group on Tuesday.
