NHK poll: 79% say “peace” characterized Heisei era

NHK reported on Tuesday evening on the results of a poll of the public on its view of the Heisei era that it conducted by mail from September to November. The poll found that 79% characterized the Heisei era as an “era of peace,” followed by 56% who thought it was an “era of good public order.” Asked what improved most during the era, 88% cited the “telecommunications environment,” while 82% cited the “transportation network.” In comparing the Heisei era with the previous Showa era, 55% of respondents thought the Showa era was better, while 42% said the Heisei era was better.
