NHK reported on Tuesday evening the results of an opinion poll it conducted from Jan. 13-15 showing the cabinet support rating was 43%, up by 2 percentage points from last month, while the disapproval rating was 35%, down by 3 points.
Asked how the Japanese government should handle the issue of compensation for Korean wartime requisitioned workers, 20% opted for “through bilateral discussions,” 53% favored “resolution through an international body,” and 17% voted for “taking retaliatory measures.”
With regard to the Japan-ROK dispute over the alleged fire-control radar incident, 28% favored resolution through bilateral talks, 56% called for bringing the case to an international body, and 6% opted for taking a wait-and-see approach.
Asked about the ongoing talks for a Japan-Russia peace treaty, 30% of respondents said the treaty should be concluded “as soon as possible,” 28% felt there is “no rush” to do so, and 31% had no opinion.
