Abe to hold summit with Putin today

All papers wrote today that Prime Minister Abe plans to hold talks with President Putin in Moscow tonight to resolve the Northern Territories dispute and conclude a peace treaty, quoting him as telling the press upon departure yesterday: “It will not be easy at all to resolve the territorial dispute that has been left unresolved for the past 70 years. I would like to spend sufficient with President Putin to hold open-minded discussions and deliver progress on peace treaty talks as much as possible.”  While noting that the premier is aiming to achieve a rough accord on a peace treaty in June on the margins of the G20 Osaka summit, Mainichi claimed that Abe may try to arrange another trip to Russia in the spring for additional meetings with the Russian leader.
