UNSC panel investigating two South Koreans for violation of sanctions against North Korea

NHK reported on Saturday morning that an experts’ panel of the UN Security Council monitoring the implementation of UN sanctions resolutions against North Korea is investigating two South Korean nationals for involvement in the transfer of funds to the DPRK. One of them, a 53-year old man, was said to be involved in brokering fund transfers from a North Korean company overseas through a company in Hong Kong. The head of the Russian branch of this Hong Kong company reportedly had an address at the North Korean Embassy in Moscow. NHK said the UNSC panel has asked the ROK government to provide information on this man, but the ROK government has yet to respond. According to UN sources, there were several cases of suspected violations of sanctions resolutions by the ROK last year, including the transfer of pesticides to the DPRK.
