Asahi wrote that MOFA announced on Thursday that Japan has submitted another report to the UN Security Council’s panel on North Korean sanctions on a suspected ship-to-ship transfer of goods involving the DPRK in order to share the information with the United States and other relevant countries. An MSDF vessel spotted a North Korean tanker and an unidentified vessel connected by a fuel hose in waters 410 km off Shanghai on Jan. 18. The same tanker was also confirmed to have been involved in an illegal ship-to-ship transfer on June 29, 2018. This is the tenth such case reported by Japan since January 2018. Yomiuri and Sankei ran similar reports.
