Russia captures Japanese fishing boat in Sea of Japan

Matsue, Shimane Pref., Feb. 2 (Jiji Press)–A Russian patrol vessel has captured a Japanese fishing boat in the Sea of Japan, Shimane prefectural government officials said Saturday.

The No. 68 Nishino Maru, owned by a company called Kagami Suisan, was captured Wednesday morning, according to the officials. The company is based in Izumo in the western prefecture.

None of the 10 crew members of the red snow crab boat have reported health problems, the officials said.


According to the fisheries cooperative to which the boat belongs, the boat planned a week of fishing and left a port in Sakaiminato, Tottori Prefecture, neighboring Shimane, Jan. 26.


The cooperative learned of the capture from the Fisheries Agency on Wednesday.
