Japan univ. may aid N. Korean athletes for 2020 Tokyo Games

Tokyo, Feb. 19 (Jiji Press) — Nippon Sport Science University is considering hosting a pregame training camp and providing a training facility for North Korean athletes taking part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, it was learned Tuesday.

The Tokyo-based private university has carried out sports exchanges with North Korea, sending athlete delegations to the capital city of Pyongyang four times, according to public relations officials.

As part of the exchange program, the university is considering supporting North Korean athletes for the 2020 Games, the officials said.

On North Korea’s participation in the Tokyo Games, the International Olympic Committee held talks with South Korean and North Korean sports authorities on Friday and agreed to aim to form unified Korean teams for four sports.
