Japan decides not to invite South Korea to naval review

Monday’s Sankei led with the disclosure by several GOJ source that the Defense Ministry has not invited South Korea to participate in a naval review that the MSDF plans to host in October in view of the lingering dispute over the alleged radar illumination incident in December. According to the article, the ministry has already extended invitations to the U.S., Australia, India, Singapore, China, and others. An unnamed LDP official was quoted as saying: “It is a major MSDF event that even the prime minister plans to attend. If Japan were to extend an invitation regardless of the radar incident, it would send the wrong signal that Japan had forgiven South Korea. We will not invite South Korea unless it acknowledges the incident and offers an apology.”
