ROK foreign minister stresses need for support for former comfort women

Asahi, Yomiuri, and Sankei reported on a speech delivered by South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha at a UN human rights panel on Monday in Geneva, during which she mentioned the comfort women issue by saying the ROK government acknowledges that previous efforts to address the issue have failed to give sufficient attention to the interests of the victims and that the government will support the victims who seek justice based on historical facts. The ROK foreign minister stated that her nation is planning to host this year an international conference to discuss violence against women in conflict situations. Asahi noted that Kang did not refer specifically to Japan during her speech.
