DM Iwaya comments on U.S.-ROK decision to terminate major joint drills

NHK reported online that Defense Minister Iwaya commented on the decision by the United States and South Korea to terminate their major joint military exercises at a regular news conference on Tuesday. He reportedly said Japan hopes that the United States will maintain its deterrence on the Korean Peninsula, adding that Washington’s talks with Pyongyang to achieve the goal of full denuclearization will bear fruit by preserving close coordination between the U.S. and South Korea and Japan.
