NHK and most commercial networks led with reports on the start today of an annual session of the National People’s Congress in China. Premier Li Keqiang delivered a report on the nation’s policy direction for 2019, saying that the Chinese economy has been affected by trade friction with the United States and that China has set an economic growth target of 6 to 6.5% for 2019, down from last year’s target of about 6.5%.

The networks reported later that the Tokyo District Court approved today a bail request filed by lawyers for former Nissan Chairman Carlos Ghosn. The court set his bail at 1 billion yen ($9 million). The networks said that prosecutors later appealed the decision.
