NHK reported online today that Defense Minister Iwaya announced during a news conference this morning that the Maritime Self-Defense Force will send a destroyer to participate in an international naval review taking place in Qingdao, Shandong Province, in China on April 23 to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese navy and that coordination is also underway for the MSDF chief of staff to attend this event. This will be the first time for a Japanese vessel to be dispatched to China since December 2011.
