Sunday’s Asahi front-paged an informal JAXA decision to take part in a NASA-led international initiative for lunar exploration that involves building a lunar orbital space station called Gateway and an unmanned supply vehicle for transporting cargo between the Earth and the orbital platform. JAXA is reportedly set to cooperate with European nations to construct a housing module on the envisaged space station. By committing technical and financial resources to the multinational scientific project, JAXA is hoping that Japanese astronauts will be able to land on the moon for the purpose of exploration. Monday’s Yomiuri ran a similar story.
