Okinawa Times reported on a finding that a portion of the Defense Department funds covering the U.S. Marines’ move from Okinawa to Guam will be allocated to building a wall along the border between the U.S. and Mexico. According to the daily, some $749 million of the Guam relocation program funding will be included in the $3.6 billion that the Pentagon plans to allocate from its military construction account for President Trump’s signature policy of constructing a border wall. The article highlighted remarks made to the daily by Guam Congressman San Nicolas, who criticized the move by saying: “Prioritizing the wall construction over U.S. force realignment is unacceptable. It will have adverse effects including causing delays” in the Guam transfer initiative.
