All national dailies reported that Prime Minister Abe is expected to leave Japan on April 22 for a tour of the U.S., Canada, and four European nations, including France and Italy, saying that he is likely to meet with President Trump in Washington on April 26-27 for talks on North Korea, China, and bilateral trade. Mainichi projected that the premier will thank the President for bringing up the abduction issue in his two summit meetings with DPRK leader Kim Jong Un. Abe is also expected to explain to the President the current status of Japan’s relations with China. The six-nation trip is reportedly intended to elicit support for Japan’s hosting the G20 summit.
