Japan, ROK hold informal talks on the name of the body of water between them

Yomiuri reported on the disclosure by a diplomatic source that Japanese diplomats met with their South Korean counterparts informally in London on Tuesday to discuss South Korea’s demand that the body of water between the Japanese archipelago and the Korean Peninsula be referred to as the “East Sea,” in addition to the more common “Sea of Japan.” As the matter is related to a possible change in guidelines established by the International Hydrographic Organization, the daily said diplomats from the U.S. and the UK apparently took part in the session even though the two nations are not direct parties to the dispute.
