Sunday’s Asahi, Yomiuri, and Nikkei wrote that the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Saturday that North Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, who is in charge of the DPRK’s diplomacy with the United States, criticized National Security Advisor Bolton for saying during an interview with Bloomberg on April 17 that the United States needs a “real indication” that the DPRK has made the strategic decision to give up nuclear weapons before President Trump would meet DPRK leader Kim Jong Un for a third time. Choe called Bolton’s comment “nonsense.” Yomiuri speculated that the remark by the senior DPRK official may have been an attempt to exclude Bolton from future U.S.-DPRK talks.
