In preparation for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, the government has set up a liaison council to devise measures to combat infectious diseases. The council held its first meeting in Tokyo on April 24. Composed of related ministries and agencies, the council will formulate this summer a plan to promote countermeasures aimed at preventing infectious diseases from entering the country from overseas by implementing containment measures at points of entry, and combating the spread of such diseases.
