U.S. to start moving Okinawa-based marines to Guam in 2024

The Saturday editions of Okinawa Times and Ryukyu Shimpo led with a Kyodo report saying that an unnamed U.S. military source told the wire service on May 3 that the U.S. military has informed the Guam Parliamentary Assembly of a plan to start transferring Marines stationed in Okinawa to Guam in the first half of the 2025 U.S. fiscal year and complete the transfer in about 18 months. The report said that according to the source, the U.S. military is planning to transfer about 5,000 Marines to Guam instead of 4,000 as previously announced.
